Dr. Gunjan Mehta of IIT, Hyderabad is an experienced researcher in the field of cell biology. He has a keen interest in studying about chromosomes and gene transcription. He completed his bachelor’s in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from St. Xavier’s college, Ahmedabad followed by his post-graduation in Microbiology from MSU, Baroda. He went ahead to pursue his doctorate from IIT, Bombay where his research work was based on the mechanism of chromosome dynamics and genome instability. This helped further the understanding about meiotic cell division and provided an avenue for therapeutic development to treat genetic disorders, infertility and cancers. He was offered a post-doctoral position at NIH, USA where he developed a technology for Single-Molecule Imaging to quantify the dynamics of proteins in live cells at the single-molecule level. This helped in the study of chromatin remodeling and the binding of transcription factors. In the year 2020, he was awarded the Har-Govind Khurana Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award by DBT, Govt. of India. He has outstanding scientific writing, presentation and editing skills and has recently embarked his journey as a PI.
